Because he was very gentle and religious his nature. She liked his behavior and kept a proposal in front of him as a marriage. But satyvan refused and said you are a princess and I am a beggar. How can you survive with me?
Lord Narad Muni warned her that Satyvan is imminent to die within a year. However, Savitri was determined on her decision and after marriage, she went to the forest with her husband. Later the days passed by and on the day when Satyawan was about to die, Savitri laid his body under a Banyan tree. Lord Yama came to take his soul but Savitri pleaded and praised Yamaraj, who got impressed with her faith told her to ask for three boons of her choice, exclude the life of Satyavan. Vat Savitri Fasting and Importance:-
In northern India, Vat Savitri Vrat is celebrated during Jyeshtha Amavasya whereas in other states, Vat Savitri Vrat, which is also called Vat Purnima Vrat, is observed during Jyeshtha Purnima.
Therefore, married women in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and southern Indian states keep Vat Savitri Vrat 15 days later than that of North Indian women. However, the story behind observing the fast is the same in both calendars. As per vat Savitri Vrat’s story, the great Savitri mislead Lord Yama, the lord of death, and urged Him to return the life of her husband Satyawan.
